DeCaro and Abbott Named Goalie and Player of the Month

BOSSIER CITY, LA -- The Bossier-Shreveport Mudbugs of the Central Hockey League today announced that Cam Abbott and John DeCaro have been named Sherwood Player and Goalie of the Month for March of 2007, respectively. The announcement comes only one week after Abbott received Rookie of the Year honors and days after DeCaro was named the CHL's Most Outstanding Goaltender.
DeCaro, a native of Everett, Washington, backstopped his way to a 5-0-0 record in March. He recorded his first two shutouts of his Mudbugs career by blanking Tulsa on March 2nd, and by holding Memphis without a goal on March 24th. DeCaro's goals-against average was a slim 1.00 through his last five games of the regular season.
Abbott, a native of Sarnia, Ontario, scored 14 goals and 12 assists through 11 games in March for a grand total of 26 points. He extended a point streak that began in February to 13 games, good for the second longest CHL point streak in 2006-2007. Abbott's 11 goals in seven games became the longest CHL goal streak in the 2006-2007 regular season.
The two individuals contributed the Mudbugs drive through March that ended in a record of 11-1-0 for the final month of the season. The Mudbugs clinched first overall place in the CHL and were rewarded with the 2006-2007 Governor's Cup, the number one seed in the Northern Conference and home-ice advantage throughout the playoffs.
