Sacramento River Cats News Release

Salt Lake City, Utah - Two homers, mixed with impressive pitching performances by right-handers Wei-Chieh Huang and Luis Ortiz (1-3) were enough to lift the Sacramento River Cats (46-61) to a 4-3 win at the Salt Lake Bees (51-56) on Wednesday.

Huang, who threw 4.0 scoreless last Wednesday, continued his strong form, striking out one while allowing one unearned run on three hits and one walk in 3.1 innings.

Ortiz picked up where Huang left off. The 26-year-old pitched 1.2 scoreless innings to earn his first win of the season.

The teams traded zeros in the first before right fielder Austin Dean kicked off the scoring in the second with a 382-foot solo shot down the left field line (103.5 MPH exit velocity) for his 13th homer of the season.

Sacramento doubled its lead four batters later when catcher Jhonny Pereda singled home first baseman Jason Krizan.

The River Cats led off an inning with a homer for the second straight frame when second baseman David Villar started the third with his team-leading 23rd home run of the season, which also ranks fourth in the PCL.

Following an unearned run in the fourth by Salt Lake, the River Cats responded in the top of the fifth, with Dean lining a two-out RBI single to make it 4-1.

After two ninth-inning solo home runs got Salt Lake within one and a walk put the tying run on base, righty Shelby Miller entered, walked a batter, and escaped the jam with a ground out for his third save.

Righty Sean Hjelle (4-6, 6.17) will try to make it four in a row for Sacramento. He'll take on righty Janson Junk (1-3, 3.88) at 5:35 p.m. (PT) on Thursday. Listen to Johnny Doskow call the game online at rivercats.com or on the MiLB First Pitch app.

Additional Notes

Center fielder Bryce Johnson went 1-for-4 with a run, a walk, and his team-leading 25th stolen base of the season.

San Francisco righty Zack Littell struck out two in a scoreless sixth, giving him four strikeouts over 3.2 innings in four rehab games.
