Deacon Jones Memorial Garden to be Unveiled on Thursday at Constellation Field

SUGAR LAND, TX - On what would have been his 90th birthday, the Sugar Land Space Cowboys will unveil the 'Deacon Jones Memorial Garden' at Constellation Field on Thursday at 12 pm.

The unveiling of the Deacon Jones Memorial Garden is open to the media and will begin at noon on Thursday, April 18. Space Cowboys General Manager Tyler Stamm, Reverend Craig Taylor, members of the Jones' family as well as members of the Space Cowboys' staff are scheduled to make remarks during the unveiling ceremony.

The memorial will feature a stone and a large bed of flowers with a gravel baseball diamond set underneath. It is located near the main gate of Constellation Field so that all fans who come to Space Cowboys games can be reminded of Jones' contributions to Sugar Land and the game of baseball.

Jones was a Team Ambassador for Sugar Land dating back to before the team was established in 2012. A former Major League player and hitting coach for the Houston Astros and San Diego Padres, Deacon Jones helped bring baseball to Sugar Land and is one of just two people with his number retired by Sugar Land. Jones passed away on May 7, 2023, at the age of 89.
