
De Haan Alternate Captain for Canada

Toronto, ON - Generals Defenceman Calvin de Haan has been named an Alternate Captain with Team Canada's World Junior Team.
de Haan is one of four returning players from last year's team and will provide great leadership and experience to a young Canadian group.
A native of Carp, Ontario, de Haan has posted 2 goals, 19 assists for 21 points in 25 games since being returned to the Generals from the New York Islanders on October 6th.
Windsor Spitfires defenceman Ryan Ellis will serve as Captain, while Spokane Chief defenceman Jared Cowen and Brandon Wheat Kings Forward Brayden Schenn will join de Haan as the teams Alternate Captains
You can see Calvin de Haan and the rest of Team Canada in their first pre-competition game against Team Switzerland at the General Motors Centre in Oshawa on December 20th. Fans are encouraged to wear RED and bring noise makers in what will be an energetic, sold out crowd as Team Canada makes their first ever appearance at the General Motors Centre. Fans that are unable to attend will be able to watch the game live on TSN2 beginning at 7pm.
Canada will play its first game of the 2011 IIHF World Junior Championship on Boxing Day, December 26 in Buffalo versus Russia, a game that will be broadcast live by TSN and on The FAN Radio Network.
Canada has medaled at twelve straight IIHF World Junior Championships, including gold medal performances in 2005, 2006, 2007, 2008 and 2009, silver medals in 1999, 2002, 2003, 2004 and 2010 and bronze medals in 2000 and 2001.
