Majors Head into Break Victorious

Mississauga, ON- Rob Flick scored a pair of empty net goals to seal the Majors victory, 5-2 over the Kingston Frontenacs this afternoon at the Hershey Centre. The Majors record improves to 28-4-0-1 and Mississauga heads into the Christmas break on a three game winning streak.

The Kingston Frontenacs opened the scoring late in the first period but the Majors tied things up in the second period and took the lead for good in the third to get the two points. Nathan Moon scored at 17:49 on the power play after scramble in-front of the Majors goal, Moon jumped on the loose puck and banged it home to put the Frontenacs ahead 1-0 and carry the lead after one.

Majors rookie Kerby Rychel tied the game with his second goal of the season just past the midway point of the second period to make it 1-1. Rychel took a pass from Derek Schoenmakers and fired past Kingston goaltender Franky Palazzese high on the glove side. Jordan Mayer put the Majors ahead after receiving a gift rebound from Palazzese. Joseph Cramarossa's first shot was stopped but the rebound went right onto the stick of Mayer and he had the entire net open and made no mistake to make it 2-1. In the final second of the period Kingston tied the game at 2-2 when Michael Fine scored on the power play beating a screened JP Anderson. The goal was reviewed but there was no correction ending the second tied at 2-2.

It took just 23 seconds into the third period for the Majors to go ahead for good as Justin Shugg scored shorthanded for his team leading twenty-first goal of the season to make it 3-2. Shugg one timed the pass from Devante Smith-Pelly right through the legs of Palazzese. Rob Flick added two empty netters in the final seconds of the game making the final 5-2 for Mississauga. JP Anderson made 30 saves to record his league leading nineteenth win of the season. Franky Palazzese stopped 36 of the 39 shots he faced but takes the loss for Kingston.

The Majors will now be off for the Christmas holidays and will return to action on Thursday December 30 at 7:00 p.m when they host the Guelph Storm. The Majors will then travel to Kingston on New Years Day for an afternoon game with the Frontenacs at 2:00 p.m. and then return to Mississauga to host the Saginaw Spirit the following afternoon at 2:00 p.m. 2011 MasterCard Memorial Cup ticket packages are on sale now.
