Jersey Shore BlueClaws News Release
ASHEVILLE, NC - The Lakewood BlueClaws continue to win games on the road, this time they did it behind a strong performance by starter Justin De Fratus who picked up the win in a 6-2 victory against the Asheville Tourists.
In his fifth start, after 24 first-hale appearances in the bullpen, De Fratus (4-3) was spectacular. He went 7.2 innings allowing one earned run while striking out seven. De Fratus worked quickly and had a span of 12 straight Tourists (16-9) hitters set down and a four- pitch seventh inning.
The game started slowly for both teams but the BlueClaws (14-12) busted out in the third inning. In the inning D'Arby Myers beat out an infield single before Harold Garcia doubled Myers home to take a 1- 0 lead. Anthony Gose then singled home Garcia and was on second for Travis d'Arnaud. With a runner on, d'Arnaud took over as the BlueClaws leader in home runs with his tenth blast of the year, capping a four-run inning.
In the next inning, the BlueClaws scored another run as the BlueClaws used back-to-back-to-back singles by Travis Mattair, Troy Hanzawa and Vladimir De Los Santos to scored and make it 5-0.
The BlueClaws added another run in the seventh as Myers reached on an error and stole second base before Garcia singled him to third. Myers then was brought home on an RBI-groundout by Gose to take a 6-0 lead.
The Tourists got to a tiring De Fratus as they scored two runs in the inning, only one of which was earned. De Fratus was relieved by Jacob Diekman who coaxed the final out of the inning with the tying run at the plate.
Ethan Hollingsworth (5-6) took the loss as he allowed five runs over five innings and allowed eight hits.
The BlueClaws and Tourists will play game two of their four-game series on Thursday night at 7:05 pm. For the BlueClaws, Freddy Ballestas (0-1) will stay in the starting rotation and begin the game. He will be opposed by Jonnathan Aristill (1-5)
