HICKORY, N.C. - The Hickory Crawdads dropped the opener of their four-game home series against the Rome Braves, 6-2, before 857 fans at L.P. Frans Stadium on Wednesday evening.

The Braves (10-16, 45-51) got on the board first with a pair of tallies against RHP Fabio Castillo (1-4) in the top of the first frame. 3B Shayne Moody led off the game by reaching on a fielding miscue on SS Leury Garcia and trotted home on a two-run homer hit by 2B Joel Campusano in the very next at-bat.

The Crawdads (14-11, 47-47) quickly cut the deficit in half with a run of their own against RHP Randall Delgado (2-8) in the bottom of the first. CF David Paisano ripped his 21st double of the season to the left-center gap to start the frame, and advanced to third on a 2B Mike Hollander sacrifice bunt. 1B Erik Morrison then drove Paisano in on a sacrifice fly to right field, making it 2-1.

Rome stretched the lead right back to two runs in the top of the second, Castillo's final inning of work before LHP Martin Perez took over on the mound. CF Jahdiel Santamaria reached on a one-out double and scored later in the inning on a two-out RBI double hit by SS Ryan Barba, just inside the third base line down to left field, putting the Braves ahead, 3-1.

Hickory came back again to pull within a run of tying the score with a tally in the bottom of the fourth. With one swing, Morrison made it a one-run contest, driving his 16th home run of the season over the left field wall to start the inning. Morrison leads the club and is 3rd in the South Atlantic League in long-balls.

However, the Braves struck for an unearned run against Perez in the sixth, an earned run in the seventh and an earned run against RHP Corey Ragsdale in the eighth to once again stretch the lead and account for the 6-2 final score. Castillo was tagged with the loss for the Crawdads, while Delgado earned the win for Rome.
