DUNEDIN, Fla—During a long 140-game schedule there are always a few nights a year when each team becomes susceptible to letting one slip through the cracks.

But when that team is also just 1.5 games behind the Vero Beach Dodgers in the Eastern Division with less than three weeks left to play for the first half title, a late-inning loss can quickly become known as "The one that got away."

And on Wednesday night at Knology Park, Daytona let a very big one get away as the Cubs squandered a pair of six run leads and eventually allowed two runs in the bottom half of the ninth inning as the Dunedin Blue Jays stole victory from the jaws of defeat to win by a final of 11-10.

Cubs right-handed reliever Juan Mateo (3-1) got the nod to make a rare start in Game 3, and Mateo was rock solid in four full innings on the hill, as he surrendered just one earned run while striking out five Blue Jays batters for the no-decision.

The bullpen on the other hand was a completely different story.

The Daytona ‘pen, who had given up just one earned run in the previous 13.1 innings pitched, imploded as four pitchers combined to cough up 10 earned runs in just 4.2 innings of work. Blue Jays centerfielder Jayce Tingler led the charge going 4-for-5 with two RBI's and two runs scored, and third baseman Eric Arnold capped off a 3-for-5 evening with a ninth inning single to score left fielder Adam Lind with the winning run for Dunedin.

The lack luster performance from the bullpen spoiled what was a terrific evening at the plate for Daytona. The Cubs banged out 10 runs on nine hits including a big seven-run fifth inning when right fielder J.J. Johnson, designated hitter Jake Fox and second baseman Robinson Chirinos all went deep for homeruns.

With the loss, the Cubs dropped to 24-20 as they pick up the pieces on Thursday to try and salvage a series split to complete the eight-game road trip on a high note. Daytona will send ace right-hander Anderson Tavarez (1-4, 5.29) to the mound to face Dunedin southpaw Zachary Jackson (7-1, 3.33). First pitch is scheduled for 7:00 p.m. EST.
