Vero Beach Devil Rays News Release

After dropping the first game of the doublheader, 7-3, the Dodgers rebounded to defeat the Ft. Myers Miracle 1-0 in the second game. Andy LaRoche accounted for the only run in the second game, lining a leadoff home run to left in the fourth inning. Russell Mitchell went 3-3 in the first game for the Dodgers, who move to 28-20 on the season. The Dodgers visit the Dunedin Blue Jays Friday night at 7:00 PM.

Pitching dominated the second game. Twins 1st-round pick Glen Perkins took the tough loss, despite going all six innings and allowing just the one run. He struck out seven and walked only one. Three Dodgers combined to shut out the Miracle. Hong-Chih Kuo started the night and struck out six in three innings of work. He allowed only one infield single. Alvis Ojeda pitched the middle innings to pick up the win and improve to 3-0 on the year. Mark Alexander threw the final 1 1/3 to record his sixth save.

Game One was not as pretty. The Dodgers committed four errors with three coming amidst controversial calls on the bases. Only three of Ft. Myers seven runs were earned. Meanwhile the Miracle starter Nick Blackburn had only one bad inning. That came in the 3rd when Xavier Paul led off with a triple. Russell Mitchel singled him home and later scored on a base hit by Chin-lung Hu. The Dodgers added an uneared run in the 7th when Mitchell doubled with two out and scored on an error.
