The Dayton Gems believe that their biggest assists happen off the ice. The members of the team and staff are also members of the community. Being part of a team on and off the ice means commitment to youth, education, fundraising and joining in wherever we can help.
Saint Jude's Research Hospital Today at 9am our mascot, Blade will meet you at 9am to register for the Give Thanks Walk at the Dayton Mall for Saint Jude's Research Hospital Visit their website at www.givethankswalk.organd search for the Dayton Gems to make a tax deductible contribution.This event will help the doctors and researchers at St. Jude's find lifesaving cures for desperately ill children in communities everywhere.
Gems Speakers Bureau On Tuesday evening Coach Marks will be the guest of the Brookville Optomists. Our speakers bureau is visiting community and civic groups all around the area. Coach, John Marks and the coach of the original 1964 team, Warren Back are traveling to meet your group and share their experiences. Thanksgiving - Feast for Giving On Thanksgiving the Gems will be at the Convention Center in downtown Dayton to serve at the Feast for Giving (formerly the Beermans Dinner.) The team is looking forward to giving back to their new community.
Breakfast with Santa and Blade December 5that Brookville's Westbrook Elementary Santa will have a new helper this year. The annual Breakfast with Santa will find our mascot, Blade, enjoying breakfast and helping Santa pass out the gifts. Canned goods will be collected and donated to the Brookville F.I.S.H. food pantry.
Fairborn Literacy Night Fairborn literacy night is scheduled for December 17that the Fairborn Primary School. Several Dayton Gems Players and our mascot, Blade, will be on hand to read to youngsters from 6pm to 8pm.
Toys For Tots During our December 18th game at Hara Arena the Gems will team up with Santa and the U.S. Marine Corps to support their annual Toys for Tots drive.
Gems Reach Out To Students On November 17th Matt Auffrey, Mike Mullin and Derek MacIntyre spent the afternoon at National Trails Middle School in New Paris. Our educational outreach program will have Gems players traveling to interact with students at their schools. Speaking about their goals, training, ambitions and being part of a team. Area students are given the chance to meet and learn about hockey and even ask the players questions. A short film will be a part of the program bringing the experience of the hockey to your school.
