Gems Game #24, Home Games #10 - Team Record 9-10-4, 22pts, 6th in Turner Conference
Dayton, OH - The Dayton Gems return home for the tenth time this season to complete their three game weekend series with the Blaze after snapping Bloomington's five game winning streak at home with a hard fought 4-2 win Saturday night.
The Gems (9-10-4) snapped their own five game streak with the win Saturday night, ending a winless drought dating back to December 2 in Missouri. Sunday's matinee matchup with the Blaze is the first game inside Hara Arena for the Gems since falling to the Mallards on Saturday, December 10.
Gameday In Dayton
The Gems and Blaze enter the tie-breaking game of their three game weekend series this afternoon on Cassano's Italian Ice inside Hara Arena. Bloomington got the best of the Gems on Friday night with their 5-3 win before the Gems answered back with a 4-2 win on Saturday night.
Bloomington dropped to eight points behind the Gems in the Turner Conference basement with the Dayton win, while the Gems inched to within one point of fifth place Missouri.
Postgame Skate, Poster Giveaway
The first 1,000 fans through the gates starting at 3pm will get a limited edition Bryan Hogan poster with fans encouraged to stay for the season's first postgame skate immediately following the game.
Toys For Tots, Ticket Offers
Fans are encouraged to bring a donation for this year's Marines Toys For Tots drive when they enter the Arena lobby on Sunday afternoon. Fans who make a donation will receive a special discounted walkup ticket and fans who wear any NFL gear will receive $2 off selected tickets at the Hara Box Office (offers cannot be combined).
Dayton Gems Game Notes
Scorin' Surma - Gems forward Damian Surma notched his team-leading fourteenth goal of the season in the Gems 4-2 win in Bloomington Saturday night. The goal also shot Surma to the top of the CHL goal scoring list tied with Quad City's Brandon Marino (14).
Offensive Machine - Dayton's offensive duo of Surma and Lutes have combined for a whopping 57 points this season, while Surma leads the team in goals (14) and Lutes leads the Gems in assists (20).
Minor Worries - While leading the Gems in scoring points, Brett Lutes also currently sits with the second most minor penalties in the CHL, being whistled off the ice 19 times in his 19 games played.
Sharp Shooter - Despite spending time on the IR, Gems forward Charlie Townsend is still one of the tops in the CHL when it comes to shooting percentage, ranked third in the league with 3 goals in 11 shots (.273)
