Dayton Dutch Lions News Release
WEST CARROLLTON, OH ...The Dayton Dutch Lions FC were outgunned on Wednesday night by a very good Indy Eleven Club. The Lions fought a hard battle, but in the end Indy's Blake Smith with three goals was the game changer.
The first half saw both teams playing hard and getting some good chances and in the twenty fifth minute the game appeared to be even. However it would not stay that way for long as Indy's Blake Smith was able to score taking the Indy Eleven into the lead. Shortly after, in the thirtieth minute, Smith came up with goal number two. Michael Ambersley from Indy finished off the half with another goal in the forty third minute leaving Dayton scrambling from behind at the half 3-0.
The start of the second half saw Indy's Dylan Mares come out of the gate quickly and score in the forty sixth minute. Dayton continued to struggle with their possession until finally in the sixty third minute Dayton's keeper, Bradley Stuver sent a long ball down the field to Eli Garner who pushed into the box and was fouled. Aaron Schoenfeld stepped up in the sixty fifth minute for the penalty kick and put the ball up into the net. The Lions were on the board. Then in the seventy seventh minute Garner ran down the right side and crossed to the head of Joe Broekhuizen who set the ball on the ground for Matt Walker. Turning he rocketed the ball into the back of the net for Dayton's second goal of the night. The Lions almost came back in the game when Eli Garner had another big chance to score the 4-3 in 85th minute. It would be too little too late however, as the lions would not score again and Indy's Smith would end up with a third goal for the hat trick. The game ended 5-2 in favor of the Indy Eleven.
