
Days Captains Vipers To Overtime Win Against Mexico City With Career-High Night

Edinburg, Texas - The Rio Grande Valley Vipers (5-8), the NBA G League affiliate of the Houston Rockets, obtained a 124-120 overtime win against the Mexico City Capitanes (8-4) on Tuesday night at Bert Ogden Arena.
Mexico City went on a 6-0 run before allowing the Vipers to score its first basket of the game. Once the score hit 6-2 Mexico City then went on a 7-0 run and made the score 13-2 in favor of the visiting team. As the quarter progressed, the Capitanes continued to extend its lead and sent the game into the second quarter with a score of 35-19.
In the second quarter the Vipers outscored Mexico City 35-31, but it was not enough as the Capitanes walked away with a 66-54 lead at the half.
The third quarter was a hot one for the Vipers as the team once again outscored its opponent 37-21. For the majority of the quarter Mexico City led, but with 2:38 to go things quickly changed. Cassius Stanley tied the game for the first time for the Vipers. After that, the Vipers turned things around and ran away with a 91-85 lead to end the third quarter.
The fourth quarter was filled with lead changes (13) and times tied (3). Both teams battled it out and as a result the game became tied 117-117 with 19.7 seconds to go. The game remained tied until the fourth quarter ended which resulted in the first overtime game of the season for the Vipers.
Houston Rockets Two-Way player Darius Days opened overtime with a two-pointer which put the Vipers up 119-117. Mexico then scored a three which resulted in a 120-119 lead for the Capitanes. Cassius Stanley then scored another two and set a 121-120 lead for the Vipers. A three-pointer from Houston Rockets Two-Way player Trevor Hudgins then gave the Vipers a 124-120 win over the Capitanes.
Days hit a double-double with a career-high 40 points and 11 rebounds. Stanley provided 24 points for the Vipers followed by Hudgins with 18 and Jalen Lecque with 15 points. Ray Spalding finished the night with 24 points.
Kenneth Faried led the Capitanes with 24 points. Gary Clark finished the night with a double-double 23 points and 12 rebounds. Mason Jones obtained 17 points followed by Rigoberto Mendoza with 15 and Justin Minaya with 13 points.
RGV will face off against the Mexico City Capitanes in a rematch on Thursday, Jan. 26 with tip-off set at 7:00 p.m. at Bert Ogden Arena. For more information visit www.rgvipers.com.
