Vancouver Giants News Release
Ladner BC - The Vancouver Giants began their intra squad scrimmages this evening, with Team Black and Team White getting things going with two spirited mini-games. In game number one, Evander Kane, James Henry and Lane Scheidl scored for Black as Black jumped out quickly to a 3-0 lead and went on to a 3-1 win. Brent Regner scored in the defeat for White.
In Game two, some fine hitting by both clubs led to a very competitive game. Team White erased 3 one goal deficits, including scoring the tying goal with under two seconds to play, as White returned the favour, defeating Black 4-3 in a shootout. Henry had a pair and James Wright scored for Black while Mitch Czibere, Andrew Bergmann and Craig Schira scored for White in the victory. Jonathon Parker scored the game winner in the shootout for White.
In the next pairing of games, Team White took on Team Grey. In Game One, Grey took out White 5-2 as Grey had contributions from newcomers Kye Benjaminsen, Sahir Gill, Brendan Gallagher and Tim Nolte as well as returning forward Craig Cunningham. White had goals from Mitch Czibere and Russian rookie Misha Fisenko.
Game Two saw some steady goaltending from Klynt Spencer (Grey) and Jamie Tucker (White). After no goals through regulation, Team Grey scored twice in the shootout, including the game winner from Casey Pierro-Zabotel as Grey swept to two wins, squeaking out a 1-0 shootout win.
In the final contests of the evening, Team Grey and Team Black squared off. Game 1 saw Black jump out early and post a wire to wire 6-4 victory...never trailing in the contest. Gary Rai had a pair of goals for Black in the victory, with singles by Lane Scheidl, Garry Nunn, James Wright and newcomer Andrej Kudrna. Brendan Gallagher, JT Barnett, Shane Malone and Tim Nolte replied for Grey.
In the final contest of the day, the line of Casey Pierro-Zabotel, Craig Cunningham and JT Barnett looked good, combining on three goals as Grey shutout Black 4-0. Pierro Zabotel nabbed two goals, Cunningham two assists and Barnett one and one as Grey looked good to rebound from the earlier defeat. Klynt Spencer posted the goose egg for Grey.
After one day of action. Team Grey, led by Jonathon Blum, leads the tourney with six points, followed by Team Black, led by Mike Berube at five points. Team White and Craig Schira trail, but not by much as they sit at four points.
Each team has a chance to improve on their totals, as all three teams will get two more games to showcase their skills on Monday. We encourage all Giants fans to come down to the Ladner Leisure Centre to catch the Giants in training camp action! Admission is free and there will be free line up sheets so that you can keep track of all the players.
