Corpus Christi Hooks News Release

TULSA - Hooks outfielder Ronnie Dawson has been tabbed Texas League Player of the Week, league president Tim Purpura announced Monday.

Dawson went 9-for-20 with seven runs scored, one double, two home runs, and three RBIs this past week. The Grove City, Ohio, native was a triple shy of the cycle Saturday night against Springfield.

Selected by the Astros in the second round of the 2016 draft out of Ohio State, Dawson is hitting .350 with a 1.095 OPS in 11 games since being called up from the Carolina League. Of his 14 Texas League hits, seven have gone for extra bases: three doubles, one triple, and three home runs.

In 101 games between Corpus Christi and Buies Creek this season, the 23-year-old speedster owns 21 doubles, 13 home runs, and 53 RBIs. He was tied for the Carolina League lead with 29 stolen bases at the time of his Double-A promotion.

Dawson is the third Hook to win the circuit's weekly top player moniker. Infielder Randy Cesar has won the award twice (May 14-20 & June 18-24), while catcher Lorenzo Quintana was honored July 9-15.

A contingent of four Corpus Christi hurlers have been named the circuit's top pitcher of the week: Lefty Cionel Perez (April 16-22, May 14-20), Jorge Alcala (June 4-10), Riley Ferrell (June 11-17), and southpaw Ryan Hartman (June 18-24).
