Oklahoma City Yard Dawgz News Release
Leader of the Pack: The Yard Dawgz remain the #1 ranked offense in the af2 with an average of 319 yards/game and the #1 pass offense.
The Graduate: WR Danny Howard did not play. Howard remains among the elite receivers in the league with 68 receptions for 948 yards and 21 TD's. Howard is 52 yards away from becoming just the 5th player in team history to surpass 1,000 yard receiving in a season joining, Timon Marshall (2004), Kris Peters (2004), Jarrail Jackson (2005 & 2006) and Al Hunt (2004 & 2006).
King of the Hill: QB Stan Hill was once again missing one of his favorite targets. Hill completed 31 of 52 pass attempts for 341 yards, 3 TD's and two costly interceptions. Hill ranks 1st in passing yards/game and 2nd in total offense. Hill's 109.0 passer rating puts him 10th in the league.
The Hunt Is On: WR/DB Al Hunt caught everything in sight against Arkansas. The veteran two-way star grabbed 14 passes for 157 yards and 3 TD. Hunt added 100 KR yards for a total of 257 all-purpose yards. Earlier this season, Hunt became the 9th player to score 100 TD's, the 14th to reach the 4,000 receiving yards mark and the 7th player in af2 history to score 700 point in a career.
Up Front: Barry Giles, Gene Frederic, Claude Davis, Zack Condo and fullback Michael Tolbert have been a solid wall of protection for QB Stan Hill so far this season. The offensive line has allowed just 5 sacks this season (1st in af2). They will need to stay strong against Rio Grande Valley who boasts the #1 pass rush in af2.
Larry Hayden: Hayden continues to become more involved as the season progresses. The FB/LB made 4.5 tackles and scored two TD's on offense. Since taking over at LB in Week 3, Hayden has 30 tackles, 3 tackles for a loss, 2 sacks, 2 interceptions, 3 forced fumbles and 2 fumble recoveries.
Dawg Pound: The Dawgz will return to Compassionate Care Hospice Field at the Ford Center on June 30 to avenge their season opening loss to the Florida Firecats.
Road Dawgz: The Yard Dawgz dropped their first game of a two game road trip 51-39 to the Arkansas Twisters. The Dawgz will now make the long bus ride to the Mexico border to challenge the 9-1 Rio Grande Valley Dorados.
Playoff Carousel: The battle for the ArenaCup has begun. Sixteen of the 30 af2 teams will play themselves into the postseason tournament. The top eight teams from the American and National Conferences will be selected. If the playoffs started today, the Yard Dawgz would be the 7th seed in the National Conference.
Flag on the Play: Penalty flags reared their ugly head once again in Arkansas. The Dawgz were penalized 9 times for 70 yards. The fourth most penalized team in the league averages 9 penalties/game for an average of 69 yards.
Red River Rivalry: The two Oklahoma teams in the af2, Oklahoma City and Tulsa, are a combined 10-0 against the Texas contingent (Amarillo, Corpus Christi, Laredo, Lubbock, Rio Grande Valley and Texas) this season. The Yard Dawgz are 13-4 all-time against Texas teams.
