Danville Dashers News Release
Danville, IL - The 1000 Islands Privateers continued their domination of the Danville Dashers as they completed a pre-Christmas weekend sweep. Despite a long trip home ahead of them, a 3-1 win should make the trip home for the Privateers seem a little shorter.
The Privateers picked up where they left off from the previous evening by trailing the first period in shots (8 to 9), but leading on the scoreboard. Goals from Chase Tippin (assists to Brad Smulders and Michael Richard) and Jeff Winchester (assists to Brad Smulders and Paul Kelly) provided 1000 Islands with a 2-0 advantage before the teams headed into the locker room. Both teams enjoyed one man-advantage opportunity each, but neither the Dashers, nor the Privateers, could make the most of their chances.
The second frame ended in no goals tallied for either club. The only notable events of the period included a treble of penalties. Arik Lebda and Shane Ferguson, of Danville, picked up hooking and crosschecking infractions respectively, while Privateer Adam McAllister caught the eye of the official for a slash. The lack of goals meant that Danville fell to 0-2 on the power play and 1000 Islands dropped to 0-3 on the evening.
The goals portion of the scoreboard moved again in the third period, but only to the tune of one strike for each team. Dashers' captain, Chris Affinati, ended the weekend power play drought with a goal early in the final frame, bringing Danville within a goal of tying the contest. It was not to be, however, as Privateer Paul Kelly put the game on ice a couple of minutes after the halfway point.
Mathew Kinsella picked up the victory in goal for 1000 Islands. The loss for Danville means the club will head into the Christmas holiday winless at home. However, the team will have two more chances to attain their first home victory before the end of the calendar year.
Three Stars of the Game:
1. Paul Kelly (1000 Islands)
2. Michael Richard (1000 Islands)
3. Chris Affinati (Danville)
The Dashers are back in action at home next Friday and Saturday as they will host the Danbury Whalers. It will be the Whalers' first trip to Danville this season. Tickets are $8 and can be purchased at the David S. Palmer Arena box office. The Friday night contest begins at 7:00. The New Year's Eve game has a 5:00 start.
