Brooklyn Aviators News Release
BROOKLYN, New York - The Brooklyn Aviators defeated the Cape Cod Bluefins in overtime, 6-5, on Friday night in Federal Hockey League action at the Aviator Sports and Events Center.
Aviators rookie forward Andrew Owsiak tallied two markers on the night, including the game winner coming just 39-seconds into extra session.
The power play - again - powered the Aviators offense early in the contest; however a late goal by Bluefins forward Billy Tibbets cut the Brooklyn lead to 3-2 after one period play. A highlight reel goal from Brooklyn's rookie forward Jordan Bernier gave the A's a 1-0 lead 3:14 into the first, but that was quickly erased after Andrew Hutton tied it for Cape Cod 31-seconds later. Jesse Felten and Owsiak both tallied in the frame on the power play for Brooklyn.
Cape Cod answered with three goals in the first 2:56 of play in the second to take a 5-3 lead over the Aviators. Garrett Peters, Brad Surdam and Matt Harrington each found the back of the net for the Bluefins during that span, which also chased A's starting netminder Jo St. Pierre from the game. Lucas Schott, though, cut into the Bluefins lead with his late tally to bring the score to 5-4 after 40-minutes of play.
Aviators forward Brendan Baumgartner tied the game, 5-5, at the 10:02 mark of the third period on his second goal of the year.
Pete Dundovich earned the win for Brooklyn making 10 saves in the relief effort, while Bluefins netminder Wes Vesprini is charged with the overtime loss despite turning aside 36 shots.
The Aviators pick up play next week with a Thursday night tilt on the road versus the New Jersey Outlaws. Puck drop is scheduled for 7:35 PM and can be viewed live via the FHL broadcast network, powered by LiveSportsVideo.com.
