Danville Dashers News Release

The Danville Dashers and the Mentor Ice Breakers went head to head once again in a battle of the No. 5 and No. 6 teams in the Federal Hockey League Sunday evening at the David S. Palmer Arena in Danville, with the Dashers taking the win by a score of 5 to 2.

The game started out quick as Fred Hein scored on a too many men penalty when the Ice Breakers bench was caught in the middle of a substitution, and the Dashers offense wasted no time capitalizing, as they scored after a long stretch pass, with Hein finding the back of the net.

Hein found the net for the second time of the night after just four minutes from his first goal, when he found the net at even strength from an assist from Justin Brausen.

Mentor fired back to pull within a goal as Ryan Koresky found the back of the net at even strength on a rebounded shot from Brett Oldaker with just seven gone in the first period.

It was Danville that found the net again, however, after some great puck possession when a Justin Brausen shot spun its way past Mentor goaltender John Sellie-Hanson. Nathan Campbell and Fred Hein assisted on the play, which put Danville up 3-1 with just five minutes gone in the 2nd period.

The final fifteen minutes went by in the second period, however, and it wasn't until two minutes into the third period when Mentor's Alexander Morrow scored at even strength on assists from Patrick Porkka and Tim Perks. That goal cut the Dasher lead to 3-2 with almost the full period left to play.

It was all Danville from that point, however, as the Dashers capitalized on multiple occasions, with Justin Brausen scoring on assists from Aaron Atwell and Fred Hein, and Brandon Contratto finding the goal on an empty-net situation to extend the Danville lead to 5-2, and allowing them to take the win.

The night's stars came out to be all Dashers as Aaron Atwell (2A), Justin Brausen (2G, 1A), and Fred Hein (2G, 2A), took the third, second and first stars, respectively.
