Kinston Indians News Release
Winston-Salem scored two runs in the top of the first inning and hung on, defeating Kinston 2-1 Tuesday night at Historic Grainger Stadium.
Kinston's 19-year-old starter Alexander Perez ran into trouble in the top of the first inning. With one out in the first frame, Justin Greene walked and then stole second base. Jim Gallagher drove Greene home with an RBI single. After back-to-back singles by Brent Morel and Seth Loman loaded the bases, Salvador Sanchez drove Gallagher home with an RBI ground out.
Down 2-0 Kinston would score their only run in the bottom of the first inning when Lucas Montero led off with a walk, stole second base, then came home on an RBI single by Lonnie Chisenhall. It was the 63rd RBI of the season for Chisenhall (1-for-4), the second most in the Carolina League this season. The K-Tribe would manage just three hits the rest of the way.
Perez (1-1) would settle down after the first, giving up just four more hits in his final five innings of work. Perez took the loss, giving up seven hits and two earned runs, walking one and striking out four. Kyle Landis pitched a scoreless inning from the bullpen, walking one and striking out two. Chen-Chang Lee pitched two perfect innings for Kinston, striking out two. Dash starter Anthony Carter (9-4) got the win for Winston-Salem. Former ECU Pirate Dale Mollenhauer went 0-for-3 with a walk.
The K-Tribe takes on Winston-Salem Wednesday night at Historic Grainger Stadium at 7pm. Paolo Espino will take the hill for the K-Tribe.
