Frederick Keys News Release

On the night in which his older brother Buck joined the club, LHP Zach Britton made the family proud, working seven innings while allowing just three hits as the Keys defeated Salem 5-1 on Tuesday night.

Britton retired the first nine batters he faced on a night in which he struck out nine without issuing a walk. He is the first Keys pitcher to reach the six win plateau in 2009.

The Keys jumped atop with a two-out rally in the third inning.

Frederick took the lead with back-to-back doubles from CF Matt Angle and SS Pedro Florimon. Florimon would score a batter later on a well struck ball that got through Salem 3B Will Vasquez which was ruled an error.

Leading 2-1 in the sixth inning the Keys busted the game open.

After Florimon doubled and Widlansky singled to put runners at the corners with no outs, 3B Brandon Waring blasted a drive to left-center field that hit the top of the wall, popped up and came back into play for a two-run double. Waring became the third Carolina Leaguer to reach 60 RBI's with the drive and the Keys led 4-1.

Two batters later LF Tyler Henson, who went 2-for-4 on the night, singled home Waring for another insurance run.

Keys reliever Pat Egan was stellar again with two shutout innings to close the door on Salem.

The series continues Wednesday July 22nd at 7:05 p.m. with Rick Zagone on the hill for Frederick.

The Keys return home Friday July 24th at 7:0 p.m. against the Lynchburg Hillcats. Fireworks will follow the game. For tickets call the Keys Box Office at 1-877-8-GO-KEYS or purchase online at frederickkeys.com.
