After seven days of voting, the Soo Greyhounds Hockey Club has found a name for their yet to be introduced mascot. And with eight eligible names to be voted on, fans cast 1275 votes on the soogreyhounds.com poll to declare the winner.

When voting closed at 11:59 p.m. on Friday evening, the newest member of the Soo Greyhounds officially became known as "DASH". The winning entry had 657 total votes and edged "THE BOSS/BOSS" by 199 votes. "Dash" overcame a 121 vote difference heading into the final day of voting.

The official announcement was made by Gerry Liscumb Jr. on Rock 101 - the official radio home the Soo Greyhounds - earlier this morning with the Morning Show co-hosts Scott Cook and Brian Davie.

The winning name was submitted by Kayla Larouche of Sault Ste. Marie, Ontario. Kayla is the lucky fan who will win One (1) 2011-12 Soo Greyhounds Season Ticket, a personal visit by the mascot to her home or business, a photo with the Mascot and the opportunity to take part in the Mascot unveiling.

In addition, the team has opted to provide a consolation prize to Will Zuke (Soo, Ontario) and Nicole Welton (Soo, Ontario) who submitted the name "DASH" as well. (as per contest rules, the main prize was awarded to the fan who submitted the winning name first).

The Soo Greyhounds are now expected to unveil "DASH" within the next two months and will follow that up with Mascot tryouts later this summer.
