Montreal Alouettes News Release
Montreal - The Alouettes announced on Friday that they have re-signed 29-year-old linebacker Darnell Sankey. He will be under contract through the end of the 2025 season.
Sankey (6'1", 245 lbs.) contributed significantly to the team's Grey Cup run. He managed to record eight tackles and a sack during the 110th Grey Cup Game against Winnipeg. Against Toronto in the Eastern Final, he amassed six defensive tackles, an interception and recovered a fumble. In the East Semi-Final against Hamilton, the San Jose native produced eight defensive tackles, two sacks and an interception.
He joined the Alouettes last September. In just six games, he collected 31 defensive tackles, a sack, a forced fumble, and he recovered one, and made an interception.
"I liked what we built this year, both on and off the field. My goal is to continue to help the team succeed," Sankey said. "I thank the Alouettes organization, I am already looking forward to getting back on the field and winning."
The former Sacramento State Hornet played a few games in the NFL with Denver, Kansas City, Indianapolis, Detroit and New Orleans.
Sankey won the championship with the Arlington Renegades in the XFL in 2023.
