Danville Otterbots News Release
DANVILLE, VA - The Danville Braves closed out a quick three game series away from ALP 325 Field with a 4-0 shutout victory over the Greeneville Astros. Pitching was again the driving force for the D-Braves, as Alec Grosser notched another great performance and the Braves recorded their third combined shutout of the 2014 season, and second straight over Greeneville.
Alec Grosser went a season and career high 7.0 innings and surrendered only three hits without walking any batters for the D-Braves. Grosser came into tonight's game second in the Appalachian league in strikeouts with 35, and in Grosser's longest outing of the season tonight he failed to strike out a batter for the first time all season long, still only allowing three base runners.
Danville scored three runs in the first two innings as Jordan Edgerton, Ozhaino Albies, and Fernelys Sanchez each drove in a run. A Tanner Murphy solo home run in the seventh, his third of the season, put the nail in the coffin for the Astros and made it a 4-0 game.
The Bullpen has sustained dominance over the past few series for Danville. In the three game road stint in Greeneville alone, the bullpen has not surrendered a run in 10.2 innings pitched, only allowed 8 hits and 2 walks, and has struck out 6 batters as a group. It was Bradley Roney and Colby Holmes who combined for the final two innings of Monday night's contest. Roney allowed a hit and a walk, and struck out one in the eighth coming in for Grosser, while Holmes threw a one, two, three ninth and struck out Jacob Nottingham to end the game 4-0 for Danville.
The Danville Braves (18-12) will be back in Danville tomorrow night set to host the Burlington Royals (13-17, 5.0 GB) in the first of back to back games between the two in Danville. The game is scheduled for a first pitch at 7:00 p.m. at American Legion Post 325 Field at Dan Daniel Memorial park.
