DANVILLE, Va. - Although Danville did not score after the third inning, they were able to hold off Pulaski and walk away a 5-4 winner Friday night. Jorge Montenegro pitched well again earning his first win of the season while striking out six batters.
The Braves offense was clicking on all cylinders to start the game after a one hour rain delay halted the start of the game. The offense scored runs in each of the first three innings. Connor Lien led off the game with his second double of the season and Victor Caratini later drove him in with a double of his own. Shortstop Johan Camargo was gunned down at the plate trying to score on the double by Caratini.
Lien came up in the second inning to add his second extra base hit of the game, a two run homer, to extend the lead to 4-0 in favor of Danville.
Caratini led off the third with his second double of the game and later scored on a single by catcher Carlos Sanchez.
Pulaski closed the gap in both the bottom of the third and fourth with solo homers by Ian Miller and Joseph DeCarlo, making the score then 5-3.
Pulaski continued to chip away at the Danville lead adding another run to the seventh off reliever Matt Marksberry.
The bullpen was once again excellent as Marksberry and Richie Tate combined for one run over four innings to hang on to the lead for the D-Braves. Tate pitched 2.2 innings and earned his first save of the season while lowering his ERA to 2.25.
Ramire Cleto struggled for the first time this season giving up five earned runs in just two innings. The bullpen for Pulaski was outstanding as they allowed no earned runs, as the run given up in the third was charged to Cleto.
Despite the modest run total, the game was one of the best offensively for Danville this season as they recorded 10 hits and showed patience at the plate with eight walks.
Camargo recorded three of those hits and reached base a fourth time on a walk. He also swiped his first base of the season in the contest.
Danville will look for their second series sweep of the season as Jared Dettmann receives his first start against Jose Flores for the Mariners. The game is scheduled for 7:00 p.m. for the final game before hits the road to go take on the Bristol White Sox.
