Danville Otterbots News Release
Danville, VA - It is safe to say that the Danville Braves were not happy with their performance tonight. The Princeton Rays were able to score 11 runs on 16 hits off of the D-Braves on Thursday night. Danville's defense committed three costly errors which led to their five game winning streak being snapped.
Early on in the night, things were looking good for Danville. The D-Braves got out to a 2-0 lead in the first inning when Edison Sanchez followed up a Brandon Drury single with a two run blast to center field. Sanchez's first homerun of the year carried well over 400 feet, but it was the only scoring Danville would do the entire night. The Braves were only to gather four more hits after the first.
Princeton got on the board in the very next inning when they scored off of a throwing error by Kyle Kubitza. What should have been the inning ending groundout ended up being the first Rays run and the first of three Danville errors on the night.
The Rays took the lead for good in the top of the third. Jake DePew had a RBI double to center that scored Taylor Motter. Then a throwing error by Elmer Reyes allowed DePew to advance to third before he scored on a Justin O'Conner sacrifice fly. The Rays led 3-2 after two and a half.
The Rays added four more runs in the fifth inning. The first came on a Motter single that scored Drew Vettleson. Matt Suschak came in to replace Greg Ross as the pitcher and gave up a three run homer to Justin O'Conner. The Rays led 7-2.
Princeton continued their power surge into the seventh inning with four more runs off of John Cornely. With no outs in the inning, Kurt Fleming committed the Braves third error on the night when he dropped a deep fly ball to center field. The Rays scored later in the inning on a pair of two runs singles by Ryan Terry and Drew Vettleson.
Danville gave up a season high 16 hits on the night. Only six of the 11 runs were earned. Greg Ross was saddled with his third loss of the season. Reliever, Shay Crawford got the win for Princeton. He pitched four and two-thirds innings and gae up just two hits while striking out six.
The D-Braves hit the road for what will be there last road trip of the season. They will take on Johnson City and Kingsport three times respectively. The team returns home for their final homestand on Thursday, August 25 when they play Johnson City and Bluefield three times a piece.
