Pulaski Mariners News Release

Pulaski VA (August 18, 2011) - After a 45 minute rain delay, both teams took the field for the series finale between the Pulaski Mariners and the Greeneville Astros.

The 427 fans that came to Calfee Park Thursday night were treated to a great game that ended with the Astros edging out the Mariners 4-3.

For the second consecutive night, the Astros jumped on the board in the first inning on a sacrifice fly by Ariel Ovando that scored Jean Batista to give the Astros the early 1-0 lead. They would add one more to their lead in the fourth inning on a passed ball that scored Luis Alvarez.

The Mariners were finally able to muster some offense in the six inning, scoring on an RBI triple by Patrick Brady that scored Alfredo Morales. Brady attempted to score on the play, but was tagged out on a close play at home.

In the seventh inning, the Mariners took the lead scoring twice on a two run homerun by David Villasuso. His two run shot gave the Mariners the 3-2 lead which would not last long.

The lead flip-flopped for the final time in the top of the eighth inning when Darwin Rivera banged a two RBI single with the bases loaded that scored Jesse Wierzbicki and Kellen Kiilsgaard to give the Astros the lead 4-3. The Mariners did tally two base hits in the ninth inning, but ended the game on a double play ball by Jamal Austin that was more than a questionable call from the umpires at first base.

Scott Zuloaga (1-0) received the win for the Astros while Seon Gi Kim was hit with the loss. Zachary Dando (3) was credited with the save.

The Mariners return home Thursday August 15th to take on the Kingsport Mets for their final home stand of the year.
