DANVILLE, VA - The Danville Braves came into game two, of a three game series against the Johnson City Cardinals looking to bounce back after rain delayed game the night before resulted in a 3-2 loss. Despite D-Braves bats coming in strong during the early innings, they were unable to get a runner in scoring position after the third inning.
Both the starters for Danville and Johnson City had strong outings, each throwing six full innings and giving up two runs apiece. Andry Ubiera (4-2) finished his outing for the D-Braves with six strikeouts, one walk, and four hits, while Juan Perez picked up the win for Johnson City while striking out seven, walking two, and giving up six hits. Bradley Roney (2-2) took the loss for Danville, after a throwing error to first allowed a run to score from third.
The Danville Braves started the game strong, with two hits in the bottom of the first to load the bases, but could not produce any runs. That momentum carried into the bottom of the second, and a Fernelys Sanchez pop fly scored Jose Morel, to give the D-Braves a 1-0 lead over the Cardinals.
The Johnson City Cardinals answered the D-Braves in the top of the third, as Carlos Torres hit a groundball-single, and then stole second base, which was then followed by a Casey Turgeon walk, to place runners on first and third. A two run double by Blake Drake gave Johnson City the lead in the third, before risky base running resulted in Drake getting thrown out at third base to end the inning.
A single by Omar Obregon started things off for Danville in the bottom of the third inning, and a wild pitch allowed him to advance to second. After Jordan Edgerton walked, Tanner Murphy singled to drive in Obregon to tie up the game.
Danville was unable to get runners passed second base following the third inning, and a throwing error by Bradley Roney in the top of the seventh inning allowed the winning run to score. Colby Holmes and Kyle Kinman came into pitch for the D-Braves late in the contest, only giving up one hit, striking out two, and allowing one walk in their two innings of work.
With the Game Two loss against Johnson City, the D-Braves extend their losing streak to five games, while still trying to fight for a spot in the playoffs.
