Mariners Fall to Elizabethton in Series Opener
August 22, 2014 - Appalachian League (ApL)
Pulaski Mariners News Release
A two-hour rain delay at Calfee Park throws the Mariners off their rhythm and they fall to Elizabethton 7-1 in the first game of the series.
Troy Scott (2-3, 3.86 ERA) started things out for Pulaski, but the Twins bats couldn't be stopped. Elizabethton hung three on the board in both the first and second innings bringing them to an early 6-0 lead over the Mariners.
In the top of the second, Spencer Herman came into the game allowing no runs and only two hits in 5.1 innings
Rafael Fernandez doubled on a line drive in the bottom of the sixth giving the Mariners their first hit of the game.
Taylor Zeutenhorst's home run in the bottom of the eighth inning brings the Mariners their first and only run of the game.
The two teams will play again in the second game of the series at Calfee Park tomorrow night. First pitch is scheduled for 7pm.
