Danville Otterbots News Release
DANVILLE, VA - Danville didn't score first this afternoon; however they scored the most which earns them the victory.
The Bluefield Blue Jays came in looking to overcome a game one defeat at the hands of the D-Braves, and it looked good for them until the bottom of the first inning happened. Bluefield scored first, taking a one nothing lead at the end of the first half of the first inning. However, a seven run bottom half of the inning put Danville way ahead 7-1.
Mike Dodig has chalked up back to back games with at least one RBI in the 11-2 victory, and with it opened the flood gates on the Jays. Rookie catcher Wigberto Nevarez demolished a moon shot that deposited somewhere in the woods behind left field. The three run homer, that still may not have landed, was Nevarez's first career homerun and more than what Danville would need for the win as it put them up 5-1 in the bottom of the first.
Alec Grosser got the start today for Danville, and the number one man in the D-Braves rotation showed his A-game today. Grosser went six very strong innings, allowing four hits, two walks, and a run. Grosser also tied a career high with seven strike outs, matching his opening day performance against the Kingsport Mets when he struck out seven in 3.2 innings.
The Danville faithful also got to see the debut of a big right handed pitching prospect for the Braves. Max Povse saw his first action of the season coming in for a relief appearance for one inning in the seventh frame. Povse did not allow a hit, and the 6'8" hurler recorded his first professional strike out against Rolando Segovia, the final batter he faced.
Danville (8-3) will be back in action tomorrow for the third and final game of the series with Bluefield (4-7). The first pitched is scheduled for 7:00 p.m. at American Legion Post 325 Field in Dan Daniel Memorial Park.
