D-Braves Sweep Jays; Improve to 9-2

Danville Otterbots News Release

DANVILLE, VA - Starting pitcher Andrew Waszak took the hill today for Danville after a rough showing in his last appearance against the Greeneville Astros. After a shaky first and second inning, Waszak managed to settle down and compose himself to earn a win in a tough fought outing for the young righty. He would finish the game with five innings pitched, four hits, two runs, two walks, and two strikeouts. Waszak retired the final nine batters he faced in the game.

Jordan Edgerton yet again raised the eyebrows of fans and scouts alike at the ball park, with another big offensive performance. Edgerton reached base all four times he got to bat, and for the night was 2-4, with a double, solo moon shot home run, three RBI, and reached base twice on Bluefield errors.

Codey McElroy also made his stamp on the game tonight; driving two runs in on his fifth double of the year. The double in the bottom half of the eighth inning extends McElroy's hitting streak to nine games, his entire professional career so far. McElroy would finish 1-4 on the night, with two RBI.

Manager of the D-Braves Randy Ingle used four relievers out of the pen tonight, none of which surrendered a single run. The combination of Luis Miranda, Matt Kimbrel, Matt Weaver, and Brandon Barker all had one inning of work a piece, doing their best to limit all scoring chances for Bluefield. The bullpen would go on to strike out six as a group, while only surrendering three hits and no runs.

The 9-2 win for the D-Braves gives them the series sweep over the Jays, their first sweep of the season. Danvile (9-3) sits at the top of the Appy League East for the moment, and will now turn their attention to the Royals of Burlington (6-6) who will be in town tomorrow night to face the D-Braves. The game is scheduled for a 7:00 p.m. first pitch at American Legion Post 325 Field in Dan Daniel Memorial Park.
