Peterborough, ON - Oscar Dansk earned his first OHL win with 47 saves in a magnificent start for the Erie Otters, who captured their first win of the season, 5-1, against the Peterborough Petes Thursday night.
Stephen Harper scored his first goal of the season as the Otters got on the board during a power play. Harper banged in a rebound from an Adam Pelech shot to make it 1-0 at 8:34.
Harper added his second of the game at 12:39 after stuffing in the puck through the blocker side of Michael Giugovaz to double the Otters lead. Jake Evans made it three 35 seconds later as he fired a shot from the right circle for his first goal of the season.
The story of the second period was Dansk, who stood on his head during over six consecutive minutes of penalty killing time, including two long two-man advantages. He made 16 saves in the second period.
Nick Betz backed up Dansk's heroics with a late goal. Betz backhanded a loose puck in front through the blocker side of Giugovaz with 15.5 seconds remaining to make it 4-0 after two periods.
Trevor Murphy scored the only goal of the game for Peterborough 2:53 into the third, the only blemish in an outstanding game for Dansk, as he stopped the other 18 shots in the third. Travis Wood scored with 50 seconds remaining for his first of the year to make it 5-1. Hayden Hodgson picked up his first OHL point with an assist on the Wood goal.
Connor McDavid and Nathan Glass each had two assists in the game. Betz and Evans each collected a goal and an assist for the Otters.
