Dans Jump Out To Early Lead And Cruise Past Sliders

The Springfield Sliders lost their series opener to the Danville Dans tonight at Robin Roberts Stadium by a score of 7-2. The Dans wasted little time in grabbing the lead, as they scored four runs in the very first inning. The Dans scored another to make it 5-0 in the second, as three straight two out hits produced a run. Sliders' starter Zac Wittmus would be done after the second inning, turning it over to JD Dozier who gave up a run in the third, his first inning of work, to make it 6-0 Dans. The Dans then made it four straight innings with a run scored, as Andrew Daniel hit a solo home run in the fourth to add another run to the lead. It looked like Danville was going to get another run in the fifth but Sliders' CF Ryan Aper threw out a runner at the plate to end the fifth, the first inning that Danville was held off the scoreboard tonight. Aper then doubled, stole third, and then scored on an error for Springfield's first run in the bottom half of the inning. However, Danville's Houston Hibberd had a very good outing and wouldn't give up another run until the eighth, when 3B David Kerian hit an RBI single to score 1B Matt Tellor. Hibberd lasted 8 innings, recording a season-high 9 strikeouts while picking up his third win of the season, and second against the Sliders. The season series between the Sliders and Dans wraps up tomorrow as the two teams meet again at 5:05. The game will be broadcast on the Sliders' Ustream channel.
The Springfield Sliders are members of the Prospect League, playing at historic Robin Roberts Stadium. The Sliders are members of the Western Division along with the Danville (IL) Dans, DuBois County (IN) Bombers, Hannibal (MO) Cavemen, Quincy (IL) Gems, and Terre Haute (IN) Rex.
