Dubois County Bombers News Release

TERRE HAUTE, Ind. - The Dubois County Bombers rallied to take a 3-2 lead in the seventh inning but ultimately lost 5-3 Friday night at Bob Warn Field in Terre Haute, their second straight loss to the likely playoff-bound Rex.

Alex Sachs (1-0) picked up the win for Terre Haute after entering with one out and the bases loaded in the seventh.

Rex starter Kyle Zimmerman no-hit the Bombers through six innings before Cody Daily lined a single to right after Jeff Zahn walked to lead off the seventh. Tyler Brake followed with an RBI single, and Zimmerman's night was done.

Zimmerman finished six and one-third innings with three earned runs allowed on two hits and four walks; he struck out seven.

Chris Tavares singled off reliever Grant Riefers to knock in Daily, Kolin Conner doubled to drive in Brake, and the Bombers led 3-2 and seemed ready to add on to that lead.

But Austin Nyman struck out, Landon Curry was intentionally walked to load the bases, and neither Bo Aumus nor Dalton Rouleau could make anything happen when Sachs relieved Riefers. Sachs pitched the final two and two-thirds for Terre Haute to close out the Bombers.

Pichi Torres (2-3) took the loss for the Bombers, going seven innings but surrendering four runs, only two of which were earned.

He was fine until the fifth. Nick Johnson doubled to lead off the inning, and Brian Norwood laid down a bunt to move him to third.

Torres fielded the ball and fired it over the head of Conner at first, scoring Johnson and allowing Norwood to get to third; he then scored on an RBI groundout by Spencer Mahoney.

Torres ran into more trouble in the seventh after the Bombers had taken a 3-2 lead but left the bases loaded. Michael Schroeder and Nick Johnson worked walks before pinch hitter Casey McCurdy's two-out double drove them home to put the Rex ahead 4-3.

Terre Haute would score another in the eighth off Travis Hayes to finish the scoring.

The Bombers head back to League Stadium in Huntingburg, Ind., to host the Hannibal Cavemen for a pair this weekend. Saturday's game is at 7:15 p.m., and it is Host Family Appreciation Night. Sunday's game, with a 6:15 start time, is family night, meaning all tickets are discounted two dollars.
