Springfield Sliders News Release

The Springfield Sliders officially announce the hiring of Terry McDevitt as the Field Manager for the 2021 season.

"We are really excited to have Terry coming in as our new Field Manager for 2021 and beyond. We feel he is a great fit for what we are trying to do here in Springfield. His knowledge of baseball will make him a great mentor to our players and help develop them to become better baseball players which is what we are all about."

Terry has a Bachelor's degree in Education and a Master's in technology where he is a graduate of Eastern Illinois University. He played college baseball for the EIU Panthers prior to being a 1986 draft selection by the San Diego Padres.

He played 5 years of minor league baseball as an infielder for the Padres and Phillies organizations and coached one year with the Padres Midwest League class A affiliate.

In 1994 he signed a contract to be a player-manager in Australia, where he led the league in hitting and was named ACT Baseball Coach of the Year. Upon returning to the United States, McDevitt was an Assistant baseball coach at Eastern Illinois University for two years.

He has been an employee with the Chatham-Glenwood School District and recently retired from teaching in June 2020.

While his days as a pro are behind him, McDevitt's passion for the game remains. Terry stated, "I'm very excited that I get to stay local and looking forward to joining the Springfield Sliders and the Prospect League as the Field Manager."

Terry said, "The Springfield area has always been very passionate about their baseball and I know everyone is looking forward to being able to come out to the stadium and watch live baseball again. There are a lot of talented players on the roster this year and I am looking forward to helping the Sliders compete for a championship." The Sliders family is thrilled to have Terry on the staff for the upcoming season and we believe he will be a great fit for the organization and our community."
