
Damien Wilkins Named Finalist for U.S. Pan American Team

Des Moines, Iowa - Damien Wilkins was named one of the 16 finalists by USA Basketball to represent the United States in the Pan American games July 21-25 in Toronto, Ontario, Canada.
Wilkins (6-6, 225) averaged 20.2 points, 5.7 rebounds and 3.6 assists in 37.8 minutes in 50 games (42 starts) for the Energy. The 35-year-old Wilkins also earned Third Team All-NBA D-League honors. He brings his nine-year NBA experience to USA Basketball having played with six NBA teams (Seattle Supersonics, 2004-2008; Oklahoma City Thunder, 2008-2009; Minnesota Timberwolves, 2009-2010; Atlanta Hawks, 2010-2011; Detroit Pistons, 2011-2012 and the Philadelphia 76ers, 2012-2013).
The Pan American Games training camp comprised of 21 original hopefuls before the team was cut to 16 finalists. The official 12-member roster will be finalized on July 12 after the completion of training camp. The team is coached by Mark Few (Gonzaga University) with Tad Boyle (University of Colorado) and NBA coach Mike Brown serving as assistants.
The Pan American Games are a multi-sport event with teams competing from North, South and Central America, including the Caribbean. The Games take place every four years in the year preceding the Olympics.
