Dallas Sidekicks News Release
Allen, Texas - Eight goals in the third period catapulted the Dallas Sidekicks past Saltillo Rancho Seco on Saturday night, the tram earning an 11-3 victory at Allen Event Center. The Sidekicks' 12-5 record has clinched them a spot in the post-season, sitting at second in the Southern Division. Dallas forward Freddy Moojen's five goals in the game propelled his total to 35 so far this season, the third most in the MASL. It has also earned him the honor of Most Goals Scored in a Season by a Dallas Sidekick since the franchise returned in 2012, edging out teammate Nestor Hernandez, who scored 33 last season. Sidekicks forward Alex Megson got things started with a goal just 52 seconds into the match, the third quickest goal since the franchise's return in 2012. A few minutes later defenseman Fabinho got his ninth of the season. Both goals were assisted by Carlos Videla. Hernandez gave Dallas a 3-0 lead at 11:10, the midfielder back in the lineup after missing seven games with injury. Saltillo turned up their intensity and put up two consecutive goals to finish out the first 15 minutes of play. The teams would head into their dressing rooms with the Sidekicks up 3-2 at halftime, no goals scored in the second quarter.
The third quarter was all Dallas, starting off with three goals in less than three minutes, two from Moojen and one from Hernandez, his second of the match. Soon after, Megson also notched his second of the night, followed by three successive goals from Moojen, bringing his game total to five. With 35 goals so far this season, Moojen has earned the title of Most Goals Scored in a Season since the Sidekicks came back in 2012, beating out Hernandez who notched 33 in 2012-13. The eighth Sidekicks goal of the quarter came at 13:58, scored by Cameron Brown.
Saltillo put on the pressure in the fourth quarter, Victor Baez putting one past Sidekicks goalkeeper Milo. Despite stronger play in the final 15 minutes, it was not enough to overcome Dallas' lead, the Sidekicks taking an 11-3 victory.
Next weekend the Sidekicks travel to Beaumont to take on Oxford City FC of Texas for the fourth and final time this season. Dallas leads the series 2-1, the games very close since Texas absorbed much of Hidalgo's roster when the La Fiera collapsed in December.
The Sidekicks will return to Allen Event Center for their final two games to close out the regular season. It will be Date Night at Allen Event Center on Sunday, February 15 when Dallas hosts Brownsville at 3:00 p.m. The next week, Monterrey makes their only trip to Dallas this season for a 7:00 p.m. match on Fan Appreciation Night.
