Dallas Sidekicks News Release
ALLEN, Texas (Feb. 16, 2014) - The Dallas Sidekicks are headed to the PASL playoffs, their number two seed cemented in their 13-3 domination over the Harrisburg Heat Sunday evening to close out the regular season. Two Sidekicks notched hat tricks, Gabe Arrendondo scoring five total goals and Carlos Videla scoring four. The win came in front of 4,207 fans at the Allen Event Center, where the Sidekicks have never lost a game. The team will finish out the regular season with a 14-2 record.
The first half totaled seven goals, the Sidekicks kicking off the scoring 9:05 into the first quarter, midfielder Ricardinho passing through the arc to Arredondo, who finished beating Harrisburg goalkeeper Timothy Mehl up close. Both teams had equal chances in the first fifteen minutes, but ramped up the energy in the second quarter. Just 1:13 into play, Sidekicks midfielder Jamie Lovegrove dribbled around Harrisburg's defense and scored high for his 25th of the season. Forward Videla notched the assist, and got a goal of his own a few minutes later. A crafty pass from defenseman Kiley Couch set Arredondo up for his second of the match at 9:07. Harrisburg's Zachary Sell put the Heat on the board for the first time at 11:23, sneaking in a goal behind Sidekicks goalkeeper Sagu. Videla followed shortly after with his second, but Harrisburg's Chris Hall struck back just 12 seconds later to set the score at 5-2 Dallas going into halftime.
The duo of Videla and Lovegrove struck for the third time 1:19 into the third quarter, Lovegrove getting the assist the goal that would complete Videla's hat trick. The Sidekicks continued their onslaught, adding five more goals in the quarter from Videla, Bronil Koochoie, Shaun David and Arredondo with two. Harrisburg's Hall scored his second late goal of the game, but the Sidekicks held their dominant lead going into the fourth quarter where Lovegrove and Arredondo each added a goal, bringing the Sidekicks' domination to a final score of 13-3.
Dallas, the Hidalgo La Fiera and Monterey Flash have clinched the three Central Division playoff spots. The Sidekicks and La Fiera have passed first place back-and-forth over the past few weeks. As both teams have won out their final matches and will finish the regular season 14-2, the standings will shift in Hidalgo's favor and the La Fiera will win the division as they defeated Dallas in December. The Sidekicks will open the first round of the playoffs at home at the Allen Event Center, facing Monterrey on Saturday, February 22 at 7:00 p.m. If they come out on top, then they will travel to Hidalgo on March 1 for their next battle.
