Iowa Chops News Release

DES MOINES, IA - The Iowa Stars today learned that their National Hockey League (NHL) affiliate, the Dallas Stars, have re-signed forward Mathias Tjarnqvist (muh-TEE-uhs shyahrn-kvist) to a two-year contract through the 2007-2008 season. Per club policy, no financial terms have been disclosed.

In 34 games with Iowa, the 27-year-old Tjarnqvist garnered 29 points, including 17 goals. The Swedish-born forward lays claim to the first Iowa Stars Hat-Trick: January 18th in Grand Rapids. He appeared in 33 games for the NHL's Dallas Stars last season, registering two goals and four assists. Mathias was drafted by Dallas in the third round of the 2000 NHL Draft.

"We like the development we have seen from Mathias both in Dallas and in Iowa this past season," said Dallas Stars General Manager Doug Armstrong. "He has proven to be a primary offensive provider in the American Hockey League (AHL) and we look for him to continue to improve his game and become a solid contributor with our hockey club next season."
