Capitals to hold prospect camp at GIANT Center

The HERSHEY BEARS announced today the Washington Capitals will hold a prospect camp at GIANT Center July 9-13. The announcement was made by BEARS President/GM Doug Yingst in conjunction with Capitals GM George McPhee.

Players will participate in on-ice practice and off-ice sessions during the week with coaches and player personnel. Several players who won the Calder Cup with the BEARS are expected to attend, including Chris Bourque, Jeff Schultz and Joey Tenute. Bourque, the son of former NHL Hall of Fame defenseman Ray Bourque, will return to HERSHEY after scoring 36 points in 52 games in 2005-06 for the BEARS. Schultz appeared in seven Calder Cup playoff games in 2006 with the BEARS after captaining the Calgary Hitmen of the Western Hockey League. Tenute scored the all-important first goal in Game 6 against Milwaukee after registering 20 goals in his rookie season as a BEAR.

The BEARS also will welcome Capitals signees Jamie Hunt, Matt Stefanishion, and Daren Machesney to Chocolatetown for summer camp. Hunt, a defenseman who signed as a free agent, recorded 45 points in 33 games for Mercyhurst College in 2005-06. Stefanishion, who also signed as a free agent, is a 6'3", 210 lb. winger out of Ferris State. Machesney played 49 games in goal last season for the Brampton Battalion, registering a 28-17-1 record, a 3.03 GAA and 3 shutouts.

The highlight of the week will be a scrimmage held on Thursday, July 13 at 7:30 p.m. at GIANT Center. The scrimmage is free and open to the public, with doors opening at 7:00 p.m. and parking at GIANT Center provided free of charge as well.
