Rio Grande Valley Dorados News Release
HIDALGO, TX: June 13, 2005 â The Rio Grande Valley Dorados of arenafootball2 will welcome some special guests at Chase Field inside the Dodge Arena Saturday night during their contest with the Central Valley Coyotes, as former Dallas Cowboys George Teague, Solomon Page and current Cowboy strong safety Keith Davis will make a promotional appearance made possible by the Pena Eye Institute.
Teague, known as the "Defender of the Star" after blind-siding then San Francisco 49er Terrell Owens for disrespecting the midfield star logo, spent nine seasons in the NFL and five of the seasons with the Dallas Cowboys. A first round draft selection in the 1993 draft by the Green Bay Packers, Teague was a stand-out at the University of Alabama and led the âTide to the 1992 National Championship title over Miami. The Lansing, Michigan native played 71 of his 133 NFL games with the Cowboys and spent the 1996 season with the squad before leaving and returning for four seasons (1998-2001). Teague registered 15 interceptions in his NFL career. Following his NFL career, Teague served as a coach with the Cleveland Browns and is currently the Head Football Coach and Assistant Athletic Director at Harvest Christian Academy in Watauga, Texas. He also directs the George Teague & Friends Foundation, which serves the youth in Alabama with 100 former University of Alabama football players.
Page was a top draft pick out of West Virginia, selected by the Dallas Cowboys in the second round of the 1999 NFL Draft. The Pittsburgh, PA native started in six of the 14 games he played during his rookie season in 1999 and eventually transitioned to right tackle in 2001, which was a season he had prematurely end due to an injury in the 14th game of the season. Page played 67 games in the NFL and 59 of them with the Cowboys over four seasons (1999-2002). He has been serving the youth of the Dallas-Ft. Worth Metroplex by coaching several youth football camps.
Davis, a current member of the Dallas Cowboys, has spent the majority of his playing career in the Lonestar State. A 26 year-old native of Italy, Texas, Davis spent his college career at Sam Houston State University in Huntsville, Texas. He had 339 tackles and six interceptions during his career with the Bearkats. He joined the Cowboys in 2002 as an undrafted free agent, bouncing around from the practice squad and the active roster, appearing in eight games. Davis was re-signed in 2003 by the Cowboys, but was later released and sat out the entire season. He was allocated to the Berlin Thunder of NFL-Europe in 2004 and earned All-NFLE honors with the World Bowl winning Thunder by ranking second in the league with four interceptions. Davis returned to Dallas last season and played in 15 games, registering 13 tackles and forcing two fumbles.
