Louisville Fire News Release
FIRE GETS BACK TO SCORING: The Fire went south to Birmingham on Saturday night and came away with a 69-61 victory in a game they never trailed. The Fire was led offensively by Matthew Sauk's nine touchdown passes. Rob Mager was named Offensive Player of the Game for his 13 catch 160 yard performance which also resulted in five touchdown receptions. Wide receiver/linebacker Dennis Fryzel, US Army Ironman of the Game, caught 10 balls for 111 yards and two touchdown passes. Fryzel also made his presence felt on defense pulling down one interception to stop a Birmingham drive in the end zone, deflected one pass and recorded one tackle. Nathan Loughran, playing in just his second arena game ever, tallied eight tackles, a pass deflection and a late interception to help preserve the victory.
300!!!: Quarterback Matthew Sauk became the fastest player in af2 history to record 300 touchdown passes. Sauk accomplished the feat Saturday in Birmingham with his ninth touchdown of the game. Oklahoma City's Craig Strickland, who has played four full af2 seasons reached 300 in April, Sauk reached 300 in just three and half seasons.
BLIZZARD COMING TO TOWN: Saturday night the Fire will return to the friendly confines of Freedom Hall for a rematch with East division rival Green Bay. The Blizzard defeated the Fire 65-49 on May 14 in Green Bay. Green Bay and the Fire both stand at 6-4 with Green Bay holding the head-to-head advantage over the Fire. The winner will share at least a tie for second place in the East Division.
