FRIDAY, JUNE 10
BAKERSFIELD BLITZ 36, Arkansas Twisters 33 (Attendance: 3,126)
BAKERSFIELD, Calif. - A Rennard Reynolds touchdown catch in the final minute of play was the difference in the Bakersfield Blitz's (4-6) 36-31 victory over the Arkansas Twisters (1-9) at the Rabobank Arena. Blitz quarterback Jason Thomas threw four touchdown passes and rushed for a 45-yard touchdown run, the longest run in team history. The Blitz were down 30-14 till a second half comeback when Bakersfield outscored Arkansas 15 to 3 in the fourth quarter. Bakersfield's Shawn King was named ADT Defensive Player of the Game for his 2.5 sacks. Reynolds game winning touchdown game on a fourth and 20 play for the Blitz. On Arkansas' last drive Kevin Feterik was called for intentional grounding to move the score to the 36-33 final.
SATURDAY, JUNE 11
WILKES-BARRE/SCRANTON PIONEERS 43, Albany Conquest 34 (Attendance: 4,462)
WILKES-BARRE, Pa. - The Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Pioneers (6-4) won their second game in a row, beating the Albany Conquest (3-7) 43-34 at the Wachovia Arena. Both teams played two quarterbacks, with former Indiana University quarterback Tommy Jones relieving D Bryant for Albany and Bryan Snyder coming in for Kyle Rowley for Wilkes-Barre/Scranton. The Pioneers were down 21-10 at halftime and thought they had their opening drive of the second half stalled when attempting a 50-yard field goal, but Jurron Kelly hustled downfield to recover the missed field goal in the endzone for a touchdown. On the next drive the Pioneers sacked Jones three times forcing a turnover on downs. On the Pioneers first offensive play Roy Olsen ran in the ball from six yards out to take the lead and the momentum in the contest. Rocco Forgione was named Offensive Player and U.S. Army Ironman of the Game for his two touchdown catches, 5.5 tackles (5 solo), one tackle for a loss and a pass broken up. Manwell Talbert caught two touchdowns for Albany.
MACON KNIGHTS 57, Bossier-Shreveport Battle Wings 36 (Attendance: 2,904)
MACON, Ga. - The Macon Knights (4-6) earned their third win at home this season in a 57-36 victory over the Bossier-Shreverport Battle Wings (2-8) at the Macon Coliseum. Macon jumped out to a 26-7 lead and never looked back. This good start began on a Matt Jackson 58-yard missed field goal return for a touchdown for the first score of the game. Jackson also intercepted a pass on defense and caught two passes on offense. Lionel Hayes threw two touchdowns and ran for two more. For the Battle Wings, Tim Hicks threw four touchdowns with Bo Smith catching two. Smith also returned four kickoffs for 116 yards and one touchdown. Reggie Perkins caught a touchdown pass and intercepted a pass on defense for the Battle Wings.
Florida Firecats 45, SOUTH GEORGIA WILDCATS 40 (Attendance 6,657)
ALBANY, Ga. - The Florida Firecats (9-1) continued their winning ways, defeating the South Georgia Wildcats (2-8) 45-40 at the Albany Civic Center. The Firecats jumped out to a 27-0 lead but in Arena Football fashion, it wasn't over. South Georgia outscored Florida 40-12 to take a 40-39 lead with fewer than five minutes remaining in the game. Florida took the ball and meticulously moved it down the field till Cainon Lamb caught an 11-yard touchdown pass from Chris Wallace with six seconds left in the game. Backup Brian Zbydniewski started for the Wildcats and completed 24-of-39 passes for 273 yards and two touchdowns while rushing six times for 12 net yards and one touchdown. Chris Wallace threw seven touchdown passes with Magic Benton catching four of them.
Louisville Fire 69, BIRMINGHAM STEELDOGS 61 (Attendance: 5,027)
BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - The Louisville Fire moved to 6-4 on the season with a 69-61 victory over the Birmingham Steeldogs (1-9) at the BJCC. Matt Sauk completed 29-of-35 passes for 336 yards and nine touchdowns with three interceptions. Rob Mager caught 13 passes for 160 yards and five touchdowns. For Birmingham, Detronn Harris recorded nine receptions for 135 yards and four touchdowns with seven kickoff returns for 108 yards. After being down 14 points in the first half the Steeldogs tied the game at 34 in the third quarter. The Fire then responded with a Mager 35-yard touchdown catch, a Dennis Fyzel interception and a 24-yard Mager reception to give the Fire a lead they would never relinquish. Both teams forced three interceptions in the game.
Manchester Wolves 62, GREEN BAY BLIZZARD 48 (Attendance: 2,371)
GREEN BAY, Wis. - Playing without several key players the Green Bay Blizzard (6-4) were downed by the Manchester Wolves (9-1) at the Resch Center 62-48. Green Bay was without receivers Troy Mason and Robert Garth and fought back to within six after trailing by 17 at halftime. Manchester's J.J. Mckelvey caught nine passes for 99 yards and five touchdowns with a one-yard rushing touchdown as well. William Haith, af2's tackle leader, recorded 8.0 tackles (6UA-4AT) and broke up four passes. New kicker Rich Ehmke connected on two of three field goal attempts, including one from 40 yards, and was 6-of-7 on extra point attempts. For Green Bay, Gerald Harris caught seven passes for 96 yards and three touchdowns. Lance Taylor recorded six receptions for 106 yards and three touchdowns.
MEMPHIS XPLORERS 61, Quad City Steamwheelers 54 OT (Attendance: 2,797)
SOUTHHAVEN, Mis. - It was another nail bitter between the Memphis Xplorers (9-1) and the Quad City Steamwheelers (4-6) at the DeSoto Civic Center with the home team coming out on top 61-54 in overtime. Memphis quarterback Brian Jones threw for 324 yards and seven touchdowns with two interceptions while rushing four times for 35 yards and one touchdown. Stephen Battle caught nine passes for 117 yards and three touchdowns. Kevin Prentiss had eight receptions for 135 yards and two touchdowns. For Quad City Tim Dodge caught 11 passes for 95 yards and two touchdowns. Matt Forbes had seven solo tackles, two interceptions and a forced fumble. In the overtime period the Xplorers had the ball first and scored on a Prentiss 10-yard touchdown reception. Quad City moved down field looking to respond till Deon Giddens intercepted a pass in the endzone on second and goal for the Steamwheelers.
RIO GRANDE VALLEY DORADOS 65, Tulsa Talons 64 (Attendance: 5,002)
HIDALGO, TEXAS - Both the Rio Grande Valley Dorados (6-4) and the Tulsa Talons (7-3) put on an aerial show as the Dorados won 65-64 at the Dodge Arena. The Dorados' Josh Kellett completed 26-of-37 passes for 329 yards and seven touchdowns with one interception. His main targets were Dwight Counter and Marqius Floyd. Counter had 18 receptions for 216 yards and four touchdowns. Floyd hauled in six passes for 88 yards and three touchdowns. The Talons' Josh Blankenship completed 24-of-41 passes for 325 yards and eight touchdowns with no interceptions. His main target was Donovan Morgan, who grabbed 10 passes for 145 yards and five touchdowns. The Talons won the game on a 33-yard field goal by Eric Houle with two-seconds left in the game. The Dorados and Talons combined for 43 first downs. Tulsa converted on 3-of-4 fourth down attempts. Tulsa won by one point last week at Central Valley.
OKLAHOMA CITY YARD DAWGZ 74, Amarillo Dusters 67 (Attendance: 6,914)
OKLAHOMA CITY - In the first game in the I-40 series the Oklahoma City Yard Dawgz (6-4) defeated the Amarillo Dusters (6-4) 74-67 at the Ford Center. The difference in the contest was at the end of the first half. Oklahoma City missed a 38-yard field goal but Amarillo's Kendrick Walker couldn't handle the return and Jeromy Flowers pounced on the ball for a Yard Dawgz' touchdown. The second half started in similar fashion. Kendrick Walker couldn't handle Oklahoma City's kickoff in the endzone and Mike Pruitt jumped on the ball for a Yard Dawgz touchdown and a two-possession lead they would never relinquish. Amarillo's Julian Reece threw for 316 yards and eight touchdowns with no interceptions and one rushing touchdown. Chavis McCollister caught ten passes for 188 yards and five touchdowns. Oklahoma City's Craig Strickland threw for 361 yards and nine touchdowns with no interceptions. Jarrail Jackson caught 15 passes for 198 yards and four touchdowns.
San Diego Riptide 79, CENTRAL VALLEY COYOTES 38 (Attendance: 2,176)
FRESNO, Calif. - The San Diego Riptide (4-6) won their second game in a row, defeating the Central Valley Coyotes (5-5) 79-38 at Selland Arena on Saturday night. For the Coyotes, George Williams had eight catches for 133 yards and three touchdowns. LaMonte Jones caught two touchdown passes as well. The Riptide's Kane Claunch completed 19-of-30 passes for 276 yards and seven touchdowns with one interception. Steve Gonzalez and Nakoa McElrath both caught three touchdown passes for San Diego. Nian Taylor rushed three times for 21 yards and two touchdowns. On defense, Ryan Smith had three solo tackles, a 12-yard fumble recovery for a touchdown, and two interceptions. Smith also caught a 44-yard touchdown pass on offense. Smith's fumble recovery game the Riptide a 13-0 lead and the momentum for the rest of the contest.
