Hartford Colonials News Release

GRAY SKIES, SUNNY OUTLOOK: For the third straight day, the sun did not shine. But the players continued to improve as they grasp the system. The morning session included third-down situations, deep balls and a drill in which the team was backed up inside the 5-yard line. There was more situational drills in the afternoon, which concluded with the 2-minute offense. Perhaps as a reward, the players were given the night off.

OPPORTUNITY KNOCKS: Going into Tuesday's practice the Colonials preseason roster was at 67, leaving three open spots. So following the morning session, a handful of players were invited to try out and impress the coaching staff.

OFFENSIVE PLAY OF THE DAY: Backed up inside the 5-yard line during a passing drill, quarterback Ryan Perrilloux dropped back in the end zone and hit Andrew Robinson in stride down the left sideline for a big gain.

DEFENSIVE PLAY OF THE DAY: During the 2-minute offense, defensive back Marshall McDuffie made an acrobatic interception. His teammates roared after McDuffie reached backed as he was backpedaling and snared the ball with one hand. "He did a double axel, triple toe loop," safety Ryan Glasper said.

IT HAS THE DISTANCE. ....AND THEN SOME: With the wind at his back, kicker Taylor Mehlhaff booted a 49-yard field goal that easily cleared the goal posts. The ball sailed through the regular goal posts, as well as the portable yellow goal posts positioned seven yards behind the back line of the end zone.

COACH PALMER SAYS: "We did several situations and we made mistakes in those situations, but I think it will prepare us for real games. So there were learning situations on both sides, for the offense and defense. We had a good practice, it rained a little bit but I think the guys hung in there and did a good job."

SELECT-A-SEAT: Colonials players and cheerleaders will be at Rentschler Field on Sunday, Aug. 29, for a Select-A-Seat open house from 2-6 pm. Admission and parking are free. Fans will have an opportunity to purchase season tickets and choose their seat. Current season ticket holders can view their seat location and have the option to move. Season ticket prices start at $60. Colonials jerseys and t-shirts will be available for purchase.

UP NEXT: The Colonials will practice twice on Wednesday. The team will have a walk-through (no pads) in the morning from 9-11 and work out in uppers (helmets, shoulder pads) from 3-5. All practices are open to the public with free admission.
