'Dads Conquer Rome with Walkoff Single

Hickory, NC - The Hickory Crawdads won 2-1 Monday night over the Rome Braves on a walkoff single by third baseman Tyler Ratliff. The win is their second walkoff of the homestand and third in their last seven home games.

Crawdads starter Tyler Phillips was dominant over the Braves bats, pitching 5 shutout innings, yielding 5 hits, and allowing one walk. Phillips brought his ERA down to a staff-leading 3.41.

Right fielder Justin Jacobs broke up the no-hitter with one out in the sixth with a homerun to right field that also gave the Crawdads a 1-0 lead.

'Dads right hander Derek Heffel took over in the sixth to make his Crawdads debut. Heffel retired the side in order in his first inning of work but allowed a game tying homerun to lead off the seventh.

Alex Speas entered in the 9thand struck out the first batter on a 97-mph fastball. Speas forced the next batter to ground out and recorded the last out of the inning on another 97-mph fastball.

First baseman Tyreque Reed led off the bottom of the ninth with a double. Left fielder Austin O'Banion advanced him to third on a grounder to first. Franklin Rollin came in to pinch run for Reed on third. Ratliff singled down the left field line to bring in the winning run.

The Crawdads homestand wraps up tomorrow morning with education and senior day. The first pitch is scheduled for 10:30am. The 'Dads will return to the Frans next Monday to start an 8 game homestand.
