Knoxville Ice Bears News Release

Knoxville, TENN. - Knoxville Ice Bears head coach Jeff Carr announced Saturday the signing of returning defenseman Charlie Granath for the 2019-2020 season.

Granath has been a key element of the Ice Bears defense for two seasons and has scored 17 points (4G, 13A) in 82 SPHL games for Knoxville. The Swedish national joins a strong group of D-men already signed for the upcoming year and will surely remain one of the league's top defenders.

"When you need a reliable, shutdown defenseman to consistently play his role in our zone, Chuck is the guy you want," said Carr. "He puts in 25-30 minutes a game and uses his strength to swallow up any offensive players who skate his way. We are very excited to have Granath back in our lineup."

Among the best one-on-one defenders in the SPHL, Granath serves as a foundational player on Knoxville's roster. His no-nonsense play and his impressive strength are why Granath has become a necessity for the Ice Bears' defensive strategy.

With Jason Price returning to Knoxville after two seasons, David Brancik re-signing, and a host of sizeable rookie defensemen joining them, the Ice Bears D-core will likely be among the strongest in the league. Knoxville's first test of the season will come at home, October 18th, against the Evansville Thunderbolts.
