September 6, 2015 - Florida State League (FSL1)
Dunedin Blue Jays News Release
Clearwater, FL - The D-Jays took a 1-0 lead in the opening inning, but it was short lived, as Clearwater put up three runs in the bottom half and cruised from there in a 6-1 victory on Saturday night at Bright House Field.
Anthony Alford opened the game with a single into right field and then stole second. He would go on to reach his next two times as well on a walk and another single. With one out, L.B. Dantzler hooked a double into the right field corner to bring Alford home.
Denis Diaz, just called up from the Gulf Coast League and making his High-A debut for Dunedin, ran into trouble right away in the bottom of the first. He walked Jesmuel Valentin to open the frame, the first of four batters to reach. Diaz recovered and tossed a couple more innings, only allowing one run and striking out three.
Griffin Glaude, also making his Dunedin debut, was next to pitch for the Jays. He struck out three over two innings of work and allowed two runs on two hits. Brady Dragmire threw a couple of shutout innings and Luis Santos followed with one of his own out of the Dunedin bullpen.
David Whitehead (9-11) picked up the win, scattering six hits over five innings, while Diaz (0-1) took the loss.
The series concludes tomorrow afternoon at Bright House Field with the 2015 regular season finale. Right-hander Jeremy Gabryszwski will take the hill for Dunedin. First pitch is set for 1:00 ET and the action can be heard on DunedinBlueJays.com.
