D-Fenders Lose Road Battle with Texas

FRISCO, TX - The Los Angeles D-Fenders were defeated 121-103 by the Texas Legends on Thursday night.

In the first quarter, the D-Fenders (20-14) struggled from the field, shooting 26.1 percent from the floor and 20.0 percent from the three-point line. In addition, Los Angeles allowed the Legends (16-22) to score 26 of their 31 first quarter points in the paint. Trailing by nine points entering the second frame, the D-Fenders mounted a come-back by converting on 68.0 percent of their attempts and totaling 15 fast break points en route to a second quarter season-high 43 points. In total, Los Angeles shot 47.9 percent from the floor and knocked down 15 of their 17 free-throw attempts in the first half.

The D-Fenders poor shooting returned in the third quarter, but Los Angeles' strong defense, holding Texas to 36.7 percent from the field, kept them within reach entering the final twelve minutes of play. Despite only trailing by six points entering the fourth period, Los Angeles allowed Texas to mount an 11-0 run to start the quarter to extend the deficit to 17 points. The D-Fenders could never bounce back and finished with a second-half season-low 38 points in the road defeat.

The D-Fenders were led by Manny Harris (29 points, nine rebounds), Terrence Williams (18 points) and Lakers assignment player Xavier Henry (15 points, four steals). Los Angeles also received strong bench performances from Josh Magette (12 points, nine rebounds, seven assists) and James Southerland (14 points).

Dallas Mavericks assignment players Bernard James (38 points, 18 rebounds), Jae Crowder (23 points, 18 rebounds, 10 assists) and Shane Larkin (nine points, nine assists) paced the Legends. Damion James (21 points, nine rebounds), James Nunnally (18 points, six rebounds) and P.J. Hairston (12 points) also finished in double-digits for Texas.

Overall, the D-Fenders shot a season-low 36.5 percent from the floor and a season-low 18.8 percent from the three-point line. Additionally, Los Angeles allowed the Legends to total 76 points in the paint, accounting for 62.8 percent of their total points.

The D-Fenders get a chance at revenge as they take on the Texas Legends once again on Saturday, March 1st, at 5:00pm, at Dr. Pepper Arena, in Frisco, Texas.
