Los Angeles D-Fenders News Release

EL SEGUNDO - The Los Angeles D-Fenders were defeated 129-128 by the Idaho Stampede in overtime on Saturday night.

In the first quarter, the D-Fenders (19-13) and the Stampede (19-15) got out to slow starts offensively, shooting 34.6 percent and 40.0 percent from the floor respectively. Heading into the second frame all knotted up at 24, Terrence Williams took matters into his own hands, pouring in 16 points in the second quarter. Leading by as many as 11 points in the period, the D-Fenders would close the half with a five-point edge. In total, Los Angeles shot 40.8 percent from the floor and 47.4 percent from the three-point line in the first half of play.

In the third quarter, the D-Fenders struggled to keep Idaho out of the key, allowing the Stampede to shoot 58.3 percent from the field and tally 20 points in the paint. Idaho would continue their assertion in the middle in the fourth period, which led to them capturing their largest lead of the game (seven points) with less than two minutes to play. Los Angeles rallied back and trailed by three points with 31 seconds to play when Shawne Williams knocked down a crucial three-point field goal to tie the game. Kevin Murphy would answer for Idaho with a two-point jumper late in regulation, leaving 2.5 seconds on the clock. Responding with a clutch jumper from the top of the key was James Southerland to force overtime.

In the overtime period, Reggie Hearn would foul out for Idaho, leaving only four eligible players for the Stampede. By rule, Idaho was assessed a technical foul and allowed to keep Hearn in the game in order to have five players on the court. The D-Fenders held a 128-127 advantage with six seconds to play before Reggie Hearn downed Los Angeles with an off-balance buzzer-beater from the left wing.

Terrence Williams led the scoring charge for Los Angeles with 33 points and six rebounds off of the bench. Josh Magette (18 points, 12 assists) finished with a double-double, and Shawne Williams (21 points, nine rebounds), C.J. Williams (15 points, eight rebounds), Brandon Costner (14 points) and Andre Ingram (11 points) all finished in double-digits for the D-Fenders as well.

The Stampede were paced by 47 points from Kevin Murphy and a triple-double from Dee Bost (12 points, 16 rebounds, 15 assists). Also finishing in double-digits for Idaho were Derrick Caracter (22 points), Reggie Hearn (17 points) and Jason Ellis (14 points, 11 rebounds).

In total, Los Angeles allowed Idaho to amass 68 points in the paint and shoot 50.5 percent from the floor, compared to the D-Fenders 41.8 field goal percentage. However, the D-Fenders made a season-high 32 attempts from the free-throw line, and claimed the season series over the Stampede 5-3.

Los Angeles will be back in action on Monday, February 24th, against the Springfield Armor (Brooklyn Nets affiliate) at 7:00pm, at Toyota Sports Center, in El Segundo, California.
