Los Angeles D-Fenders News Release

EL SEGUNDO - The Los Angeles D-Fenders were defeated by the Santa Cruz Warriors 121-106 on Monday night at Toyota Sports Center.

In the first quarter, the D-Fenders (17-12) got off to a solid start from the floor, connecting on four of seven three-point attempts and 11 of 23 field goal attempts. Despite carrying a three-point lead into the second quarter, Los Angeles let the game slip out of their grasp quickly in the second frame. Santa Cruz (17-12) racked up a second-quarter opponent season-high 41 points on 61.5 percent from the floor. Furthermore, the D-Fenders shot just 17.9 percent from the floor, including zero of 12 from the three-point line. In total, Los Angeles shot 31.4 percent from the field and 21.1 percent from the three-point line in the first half.

The D-Fenders were able to bounce-back offensively in the third period by going inside to tally 20 points in the paint. However, their lack of defense only allowed them to shave four points off of their 24-point halftime deficit. C.J. Williams and Andre Ingram managed to score 10 points each in the final quarter, but the large disadvantage proved to be too much to overcome for Los Angeles.

The D-Fenders were paced by C.J. Williams (25 points, nine rebounds), Manny Harris (22 points), James Southerland (19 points) and Andre Ingram (10 points). Terrence Williams finished with a double-double (11 points, 11 assists) as well for Los Angeles.

All five starters, Seth Curry (20 points, six rebounds), Mychel Thompson (18 points, eight rebounds), Dominic McGuire (16 points 14 rebounds), Daniel Nwaelele (12 points) and Hilton Armstrong (11 points), finished in double-figures for Santa Cruz. In addition, Cameron Jones (17 points, seven assists) and Scott Machado (10 points, 10 rebounds) finished in double-digits off of the bench for the Warriors.

Overall, the D-Fenders forced the Warriors into 20 turnovers, which led to 24 points. However, Los Angeles was beat in field goal percentage (50.5-42.7), three-point percentage (48.0-30.3), free-throw percentage (100.0-82.4), rebounds (58-35) and assists (33-23) on the night. Furthermore, the D-Fenders trailed from the 10:56 mark in the second quarter until the end of the game.

The D-Fenders will now take on the Idaho Stampede on Wednesday, February 12th, at 7:00pm, at Toyota Sports Center, in El Segundo, California.
